A PR Advisory just arrived in my email, headlined
ADVISORY: Doctors, Faith Leaders Hold Dayton Health Reform Forum
I thought...hmmm..what's this? Then saw that it came from a group called Doctors for America. I tend to be skeptical whenever something claims to be "for America" these days, since so many "for America" groups are far to the right. So I checked 'em out.
On visiting its website, I quickly learned that this progressive grassroots organization numbers some 15,000 activist physicians and functions under the Center for American Progress.
They really ARE pushing for solid health care reform...and in my region they're reaching out to African American faith groups that may have been hearing a bit too much rightwing propaganda from social conservatives.
I did a quick search in the Kos Search box for this org and didn't find anything, so I'm posting its link and a bit more context below the fold.
Here are the facts from the news release:
WHO: DOCTORS FOR AMERICA Physicians
WHAT: Health Care and Insurance Reform Forum with doctors, faith leaders
WHEN: Monday, October 26th, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
WHERE: Greater Allen AME Church
1620 W. Fifth Street
Dayton, Ohio
And attending panelists will include
John Ryan, State Director for Senator Sherrod Brown, Dr. Alonzo Patterson, Dr. Margaret Dunn, Dr. Ryan Simon, and Dr. Lisa Vantrease, Dr. Kathy Lambes, Matthew Noordsij-Jones, and Paul Gresham. The event will be moderated by Dr. Don Nguyen and Dr. Gary LeRoy.
I'm really tickled to discover - belatedly I'm sure - that there are groups of physicians besides the Physicians for a National Health Program who avidly seek reform and are educating the public to get it.
My preference is single-payer, but every doc who pushes for genuine health care reform that benefits patients, not insurance companies, is an asset to the cause.
Here's the Doctors For America website. If this group is common knowledge here & I somehow missed it, I apologize for redundancy - but even if you know about them, it doesn't hurt to say thanks!
